Riverside Stage: Friday's artists

Brian Ashley Jones
Brian Ashley Jones, 1-1:50 p.m.
A soulful singer and accomplished lead guitarist, his music is described as "Blues Grass", a music heavily influenced by the guitar driven blues, bluegrass, country, and rock that he absorbed while growing up in a musically diverse family in South Carolina.
Bucktown Kickback
Bucktown Kickback, 2-2:50 p.m.
"With a name like Bucktown Kickback, you may as well not even show up to the venue if you can't throw down with some good old-fashioned, fiery, oh-mama-that's-what-I-like roots tunes. Luckily for you, these dudes can do that and more, touching perfectly on everything from country slide blues to creepy, creek-bed-at-night Americana. I dare you to miss this." By Josh Ruffin, Metro Spirit, Augusta, GA.
Jon Shain
Jon Shain, 3-3:50 p.m.
Durham, NC’s Jon Shain is a veteran singer-songwriter who's been turning heads for years with his words, fiery acoustic guitar work and evolved musical style - combining improvised piedmont blues with bluegrass, swing, and ragtime.
Laura Blackley
Laura Blackley, 4-4:50 p.m.
Laura Blackley's music is 100 percent handmade and homegrown, with a reverence for old-school blues and classic country, a deep love of ghost stories and a touch of Appalachian soul. Just perfect for the BBQ.
Jenny Juice
Jenny Juice, 5-5:50 p.m.
Jen Greer serves up a fresh-squeezed blend of homegrown jazz, swing, hip-hop and folk and has become a regular at some of Western North Carolina's hippest venues. She skillfully weaves threads of each genre into her self-proclaimed universal hipster hymns.
Kriston Markiton
Kriston Markiton, 6-6:50 p.m.
A versatile singer/songwriter/performer who was raised on Motown and folk music, and who fell in love with country blues, Markiton was classically trained as a lyric coloratura. The result is a fairly uncategorizeable voice which has been described as having “a sweetness reminiscent of Emmylou Harris”, a “tough, yearning, heartland approach which recalls Melissa Etheridge” and at the same time a “slinky, sensual voice that soars to the top of the funk.”
