The Blue Ridge BBQ & Music Festival cranks up its spectacular 2016 event on Friday and Saturday, June 10 and 11. Headlining on the Main Stage will be The Marcus King Band, appearing on Saturday night at 9:15; and The Steepwater Band, on Friday night at 9:30. Also, Sister Sparrow & The Dirty Birds on Saturday at 7:00 and Blair Crimmins & The Hookers on Friday at 7:30. In all, 12 bands will perform on the Main Stage during the two-day event, and another nine bands and a Magic Show will be featured at the Riverside Stage.

A complete schedule and bio sketches of the bands are available at

Joe McConnell, Festival Entertainment Co-chair said his committee has put together an entertainment package that should please most Festival guests. “We’re pleased with the final lineup,” he said. “There’s a good mix of country, country rock, bluegrass, some blues and jazz, even funk. So if you’re not hearing exactly what you like best – just hang around a bit — or go check out the other stage.”

“This has to be the best entertainment value anywhere,” said Eric McKaig, chairman of the 2016 event. He said that the $8 cost of admission includes free shuttle parking, live music on two stages both days, a juried craft show, Saturday’s Classic Car Show and Grand Finale Fireworks. There are also carnival rides and games for kids of all ages not to mention fantastic food. The $8 gate price is for adults—children 12 and under free! Everyone gets in FREE on Friday between 10am and 2pm. And, if you are a Polk County or Landrum (zip code 29356) resident, you get in FREE ALL DAY ON FRIDAY with ID showing home address. The Chairman said, “If you feel the $8 admission fee is too much, you can just get in FREE anytime. All you have to do is sign up as a volunteer on our website or call 828-859-RIBS and work just four hours for the Festival. You’ll get in FREE, get a free Volunteer t-shirt, bottled water, and food.”

The Festival has also taken special care to ensure that, in addition to the championship quality barbecue, there are many other family-friendly food choices, such as all the delicious side dishes, sandwiches, hot dogs, and a wide variety of desserts and beverages. Even vegetarians will find plenty to enjoy for lunch, dinner or snacking. Also wallet-sensitive again this year is the pricing structure in our Fun Park, where there will be two unlimited ride sessions on both days, during which time kids can ride as many times as they want for only $15 per session.

Barbecue and music, of course, are the main attractions. Approximately 80 cookers are expected to roll into “Hog Heaven,” and set up their cookers, vying for the Grand Championship or the North Carolina Governor’s Cup - or BOTH! (The Governor’s Cup conveys the title “North Carolina Grand Champion” upon the highest finishing North Carolina team.) The cook teams come from all over to compete for the prizes—cash and trophies and, of course, bragging rights. Festival-goers can stroll through Hog Heaven to see the teams at work and pick-up some cooking tips. Six of the competitors will also have their award-winning barbecue for sale at their vendor booths on the infield.
